La La Anthony was recently a guest at the 10th anniversary Circle of Sisters Expo in New York, where she was interviewed in front of a live crowd of attendees by Hot 97.1 Radio Host, Miss Info.
She talked about, amongst other subjects, her husband, New York Knicks power forward, Carmelo Anthony’s decision to stay with the Knicks and her take on his own sense of fashion. When asked if she works with his stylist to dress him, La La said: “No, I just kinda let him do his thing and I think he dresses really, really well. He’s a good looking guy; I want him to feel good about himself.”
On the topic of their marriage and the “basketball wife” strategy for success that many women attempt to implore, La La unabashedly articulated “work on yourself; why are we chasing these guys and giving them so much power? My husband, I love him and he compliments me but I don’t need that to feel like now my life is where it needs to be. I don’t need a man to validate me in that way.”
The actress, designer and New York Times Best-Selling Author of “The Love Playbook”, shared her philosophy on style saying that regardless of whether it’s Gucci or a Thrift Store purchase, “It’s about the confidence when you wear clothes; not about the designers or labels; it’s just about what looks good.”
She added that two of her biggest fashion inspirations are her “best friends in the whole world”, singers Kelly Rowland and Ciara, saying: “I think they’re amazing when it comes to dressing and they’re cool.” While she finds it okay to utilize social media outlets such as Instagram for style motivation, La La advises “be unique to who you are and just do what makes you feel good.”
In response to what the Marcy Projects born entrepreneur has coming up next, La La shared that she is currently working on the second season of the hugely popular Starz production “Power”, her second book entitled “The Power Playbook” and will continue to build on her makeup line, “Motives for La La” as well as her clothing venture, “5th and Mercer”.
As a wife, mother, actress, designer and reality show star, it’s no question that La La has a lot on her plate. However, she made it clear that motivating and encouraging women was just as near and dear to heart, offering in closing: “For women out there, especially young women…find your own way. So many women feel that they have to be validated by a man or a guy and they go through so much destruction because of that. Let’s focus on being happy with ourselves and knowing that we are enough and we don’t need a man to validate us.”
With that type of strength and wisdom, it’s no wonder that La La is the success that she is!
